Mike Devine provides legal advice and services in the areas of Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Mike earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law. Mike also earned a Master of Strategic Studies (MSS) degree from the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Military Law from The Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville. Mike is a member of both the Maryland State Bar and the Virginia State Bar. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Prior to joining our firm, Mike served in the U.S. Army for twenty-six years as a judge advocate (Army lawyer). His time in the military included a wide range of leadership responsibilities and a broad legal practice around the world. Mike’s assignments included serving as a tax attorney, administrative law attorney, contracts attorney, prosecutor, criminal defense counsel, and military judge. Mike was also fortunate to serve as both a law professor and Associate Dean at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville. During those latter assignments Mike and his family fell in love with Charlottesville, which prompted his desire to return to the area. Immediately following his military service, Mike first worked for two years as a civilian attorney for the Department of Defense on a judicial staff adjudicating international terrorism cases before finally returning to Albemarle County and joining Virginia Wills, Trusts & Estates.
Mike is an active member and volunteer at both his church in Crozet and the Charlottesville Chapter of the Penn State University Alumni Association.
When Mike is not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his wife, who is a tax accountant in Charlottesville, and their dog, Murphy. Mike also enjoys visiting his children in New York and Phoenix, and his passion for Penn State athletic teams motivates his travel to games around the country to cheer on the Nittany Lions.
